# Troubleshoot a Live Room

> Fix camera, microphone, screen sharing, and loading problems in a Community Live Room.

If your camera, microphone, or screen sharing isn't working in a **Live Room**, or the room won't load at all, work through the checks below in order. Most Live Room problems come down to browser permissions, your operating system's privacy settings, or a network that blocks the connection.

## First, check your systems and settings

### Refresh the window

Many common problems can be solved by hitting the refresh button on your browser. It's the equivalent of unplugging and plugging it back in.

If you are still experiencing issues, continue to the next steps.

### Update the browser

The next thing to check is if your browser is up to date.

Kajabi supports the two most recent versions of supported browsers, so double-check that there isn't an update available for the one you're using.

Click on the links below to walk through updating the following common browser:

* [**Google Chrome**](https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95414?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop\&hl=en)
* [**Mozilla Firefox**](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version)
* [**Opera**](https://help.opera.com/en/latest/crashes-and-issues/#updateBrowser)
* [**Safari**](https://support.apple.com/en-us/102665)
* Microsoft Edge - This browser is updated automatically when you update Windows.

### Check permission settings

When your browser first asks permission to access your camera and microphone, you may have chosen **Block** instead of **Allow** by mistake.

In this case, click the camera icon in the browser's address bar to undo the block, then refresh the page.

<Note>
  **Note:** The icon may differ slightly in appearance on different browsers.
</Note>

### Clear cache and cookies

Finally, it's possible that this is caused by a stale microphone/camera permissions cookie, or by another application that has taken priority access to your camera or microphone.

In this case, we recommend clearing your cache and cookies for your entire browser and restarting your computer. Sometimes a reset of your system environment will resolve these types of issues, so this is a "catch-all" solution before further investigation is required.

Instructions for clearing your cache and cookies for supported browsers are linked below:

* [**Google Chrome**](https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32050?co=GENIE.Platform=Desktop\&hl=en)
* [**Mozilla Firefox**](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-clear-firefox-cache)
* [**Opera**](https://help.opera.com/en/latest/security-and-privacy/#clearBrowsingData)
* [**Safari**](https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/manage-cookies-sfri11471/mac)
* [**Microsoft Edge**](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10607/microsoft-edge-view-delete-browser-history)

### Check system and browser settings

macOS and Windows both have system-level privacy controls for your camera and microphone. Your browser can be blocked there even when its own permissions look correct.

#### Allow camera and microphone access on macOS

1. Click the **Apple** menu in the top left corner.
2. Select **System Settings**.
3. Click **Privacy & Security** in the sidebar.
4. Click **Camera**, then turn on access for the browser you use for Live Rooms.
5. Click **Microphone**, then turn on access for the same browser.
6. Restart your browser for the change to take effect.

#### Allow camera and microphone access on Windows

Open your Windows privacy settings and confirm that camera and microphone access is turned on for the browser you use for Live Rooms.

#### Set camera and microphone defaults in Chrome

Mic and camera defaults can be reached several ways in Chrome, but the quickest is to paste these into your address bar:

* Camera: chrome://settings/content/camera
* Microphone: chrome://settings/content/microphone

From these areas, you can set Chrome's default camera and microphone and allow or block individual sites.

Make sure the site you join your Live Room from is listed under **Allow** for both Camera and Microphone.

### Check firewalls and browser extensions

* **Adjust your Firewall.** Some browsers are not able to connect through strict networks/firewalls. Also, there may be bugs in the browser causing problems with the connection. If you are experiencing this, try switching to another browser. Currently, Firefox is not supporting connections through very strict firewalls, so if you are on a corporate network, try to get all participants to use Chrome or Opera.
* **Browser Extensions.** Interfering browser extensions: It is not uncommon for some third-party extensions to cause problems with some websites. Try using your browser through an [Incognito](https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95464?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop\&hl=en) tab or [Private](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/private-browsing-use-firefox-without-history) browsing window to test this. If all works normally then you know that an extension is causing an issue. Unfortunately, there is no way to identify which one easily. A process of elimination will need to be done on each extension to find the one causing the problem.

## Fix a Live Room that won't load

If the Live Room shows **Live room unavailable** and the message "The live room can't be loaded right now. Please try again in a moment.", click **Try again**. This message means the room itself could not be opened, not that your camera or microphone is blocked.

If it keeps appearing:

1. Refresh the page.
2. Leave the page, then rejoin from your Community's **Live Room** link.
3. If the session was scheduled as a Meetup, open that Meetup and join from there.

If you see **Error accessing media devices** and the message "Please check your browser settings and try again.", your browser is blocking your camera or microphone instead. Work through Check permission settings and Check system and browser settings earlier on this page.

## Fix not being able to see or hear everyone

Live Rooms run in the browser, so every participant's own setup matters, not just yours. If you see black frames or can't hear someone, the cause is usually permissions, their browser, or the network.

Below are some tips on how to resolve this issue.

### Check the network

The most common reason for these issues is related to network connections not being established between you and your guests. For most users, this is related to network security, for example, a VPN or a firewall.

* If you have a VPN try disabling it and reconnecting to the room.
* If you have a firewall, ask whoever manages your network to allow video calling traffic, then test again.
* Try connecting via an alternative network, such as a mobile hotspot.

### Release your microphone from another app

It could be possible that another platform is taking microphone access. A quick way to fix this is to clear your cache and cookies. Below you can find further instructions depending on the browser you are using:

* [Google Chrome](https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32050?co=GENIE.Platform=Desktop\&hl=en)
* [Mozilla Firefox](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-clear-firefox-cache)
* [Safari](https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/manage-cookies-sfri11471/mac)
* [Opera](https://help.opera.com/en/latest/security-and-privacy/#clearBrowsingData)

### Switch browsers

There have been reports in the past where similar issues happen when a connection is made through a Safari or Edge browser. For good practice, we recommend using some of the more seasoned veterans such as Chrome or Firefox to see if the issue persists.

### Still stuck

If you have worked through the checks above and the problem continues, reach out to Kajabi Support. Include the name of your Community, the browser and operating system you were using, and roughly when the session took place.

## Enable JavaScript after an unsupported browser message

Live Rooms need JavaScript, so one reason you'd see an unsupported browser message in a browser that is supported is that JavaScript has been turned off.

### Google Chrome and other Chromium browsers

1. On your computer, open **Chrome**.
2. At the top right, click **More**.
3. Click **Settings**.
4. Click **Privacy and security**.
5. Click **Site settings**.
6. Click **JavaScript**, then allow sites to use JavaScript.
7. Refresh the page.

### Safari and Firefox

Turn JavaScript back on in your browser's own settings, then refresh the page. Both browsers have moved this setting between versions, so check your browser's help documentation if you can't find it.

## Give browser permission to share screen

If you're a Mac user, you might encounter problems while trying to share your screen. This is because your browser needs permission from the Mac Operating System (OS) to share the screen.

Fortunately, this can be solved quickly.

1. Click the **Apple** menu, then select **System Settings**.
2. Click **Privacy & Security** in the sidebar.
3. Click **Screen Recording**, then turn on access for the browser you are using.
4. Restart your browser for the change to take effect.

If it still doesn't work, turn the setting off and on again.
