Understanding Community notifications
Community notifications are delivered in three ways:- Emails — Sent to the member’s email address
- In-app notifications — Appear in the notification center within the Community
- Mobile push notifications — Sent to members using the mobile app
- Community level — You set defaults for all members in Community Settings
- Individual level — Each member adjusts their own preferences in their profile settings
Note:
- When a member joins your Community, all notifications are enabled by default. Members can then customize their preferences at any time. If you disable a notification type at the Community level, members will see that setting grayed out and cannot reactivate it.
- The wording of system-generated push notifications (such as Live Room alerts and Meetup invitations) is set by Kajabi and cannot be customized. Per-member language preferences may apply where supported, but full localization of push notification text is not currently available.
Notifications by Community feature
You and your Moderators, Administrators, and Community members can customize and receive push, in-app, and email notifications for Channels, Direct Messages, Challenges, Meetups, Live Rooms, and Announcements. You can also receive an emailed Weekly Digest.Customize push, in-app, and email notifications

- Mentions — Receive a notification every time your profile name is mentioned in a Channel
- Muted — Opt out of all notifications for a specific Channel

- Click the more actions (…) icon next to the Community cover photo, then select Community Settings.
- Select Email Notifications.
- On the Email Controls tab, click each toggle on or off as desired to enable or disable notification emails for Channels, Challenges, Meetups, Live Rooms, Announcements, and Weekly Digest.

What doesn’t trigger a Channel email notification
Community email notifications are sent for replies, mentions, and direct messages. The following do not trigger an email notification:- New top-level posts in a Channel (only replies to your posts, or @mentions of your name)
- Comments on posts you haven’t authored, unless you’ve manually followed that post
Challenges
- Challenge ends (admins): Admins are notified when a Challenge has ended
- Comment: Members are notified for Challenge comments
- Comment mentions: Members are notified when they are mentioned in a Challenge
- Entry mentions: Members are notified when they get mentioned in a Challenge
- Hype ups: Members are notified when they get a Hype up in a Challenge
Meetups
- 1 day before: Members are notified 1 day before a Meetup is scheduled to begin
- 1 hour before: Members are notified 1 hour before a Meetup is scheduled to begin
- When it starts: Members are notified the moment a Meetup starts
- Meetup created: Members are notified when a Meetup is created
- Meetup rescheduled: Members are notified when a Meetup is rescheduled
- Meetup cancelled: Members are notified when a Meetup is cancelled
Note: Meetup reminder emails are queued when the Meetup is created or edited. During periods of high email queue volume, reminders may be delivered late — including after the event has started. The event time displayed in reminders reflects the timezone set in your Community settings, not the recipient’s local timezone. If a reminder consistently shows the wrong day (“tomorrow” vs. “today”), check that your Community timezone is correctly configured.
Live Rooms
- When it starts (admins): Admins are notified the moment a Live Room starts
- Recording is available (admins): Admins are notified when a Live Room recording is available
- Recording is available (members): Members are notified when a Live Room recording is available

- New global announcement: Members are notified when there is a global announcement
- New channel announcement: Members are notified when there is a Channel announcement

If you don’t update your marketing contact address here, the default address shown is Kajabi’s company address_._ This is separate from the Marketing Contact Address in your Marketing Settings, which has no effect on Community email notifications.FAQs
Can members override Community-level notification settings?
No. If you disable a notification type at the Community level, members cannot re-enable it. The setting appears grayed out in their My Account Settings. What happens when a member first joins?
All notifications are enabled by default. Members can customize their preferences in their profile settings after joining. How does the Weekly Digest work?
A personalized digest is sent starting at 9 AM Pacific Time on Thursdays. Members only receive content from Access Groups they belong to, and they can unsubscribe at any time. Can I mute notifications for just one Channel?
Yes. Use the Muted option in that Channel’s notification settings to opt out of all notifications for it, without changing your settings for any other Channel. Why might a member still not receive notifications even when all toggles are enabled?
Three conditions can suppress delivery even with all settings on:- Per-channel muting: A member may have set a specific channel to Muted in their own notification settings, which silences that channel regardless of community-level defaults.
- Access Group restrictions: Members only receive notifications for content within their Access Groups. A member without access to a channel will not receive its notifications.
- Email provider filtering: The notification email may be in the member’s spam or promotions folder. Ask them to search for emails from your community domain and mark them as safe.
